Juice: Concentrate or Not from Concentrate

I drink orange juice almost every morning, it is my juice of choice. My husband has grape juice almost every morning, that’s his juice of choice.

Questions were being asked on some show I was watching about fruit juice, what’s the best juice to drink concentrated or unconcentrated … Is it healthy? Is sugar added? In my head I started defending juice … Yes, it’s healthy. I love it, so if it’s natural, how could it not be healthy? I’m talking 100% juice not some sugary drink.

I now wanted to know which of the two types is healthiest. Shopping for my morning orange juice, I had to decide which was best for my family! (more…)

Drink water much?

** Did you know that the normal human body is 60% water? **

That being said, drinking water daily is pretty important (as I grab for my water, right now!).

As basic and tasteless as it is, it has so many health benefits!

When I wake up in the morning before I brush my teeth I drink an 8 oz glass of water. I know it doesn’t really sound like a big deal but drinking a small glass of water first thing in the morning has sooo many health benefits!

#FoodCravings, Are you listening to what your Body is telling you?

When your body gives you signals do you pay attention to them?

Do you know what they are?

I am a vegan and allergic to dairy (nice right?).  I found out as an adult. I used to be sick all the time.  The copays and hospital visits were driving me crazy!! When they found out that I had sarcoidosis, through a lung biopsy – It. Changed. Everything.  On top of that they learned that multiple reactions were occurring due to an egg and dairy allergy.  Do you know how many things have dairy in it? It was even in the pills that several doctors were prescribing.  Now, I pay attention to everything.  I read the labels. I pay attention to what I put inside of my body, I know when it’s lacking something.

Start Eating Healthy #LikeABoss

Alright fam,

It’s been on my mind to say what everyone else is thinking.

It is absolutely NOT OK, to EAT LIKE CRAP

EAT TO LIVE!!!!

You are what you eat, and because of that I want to make it a point to give you the information that you need to begin. People make it complicated and it’s not. It is a Mindset. You have to see yourself eating differently. You actually have to make the effort. Know what you are buying at the grocery store. Know if you are drinking enough water. Are you listening to what your body is telling you?

Indoor BBQ? #NoProblem

Indoor BBQ? #NoProblem
Alright family, have you ever had a taste for something, but in the end you are missing one of the main ingredients?
Well, yesterday, it was me!!! I wanted to grill everything! I mean everything! I wanted grilled carrots, grilled asparagus, grilled mushrooms, grilled corn, grilled veggie dogs, and grilled salmon for the meat-eaters in my house. I told you… ALL GRILLED EVERYTHING! As soon as I left work, I hit the grocery store and BOOM, I had a cart filled with all the items that I wanted.
My mouth was watering as I seasoned everything to perfection. I got my husband to go out and clean the grill, load some fresh charcoal, and you know what? THERE WAS NO FLIPPIN CHARCOAL!!!!! Do you feel my frustration? (Now banging my head up against the wall)
I didn’t feel like going back to the store, because I’m a working Mom, and my spirit was tired. I had to make a way out of no way! OKAY!!!
So, I made an executive decision (lol)… Indoor BBQ!!!
How I did it, you may ask. Well, let me elaborate.
I made an olive oil, lemon, pepper, and smoky mesquite glaze (so it had a smoked flavor), poured it in the bottom of the pan, and put the carrots (halved) in it. I also poured a bit on top to keep them moist. I popped those bad boys in the oven, until they were almost soft. Then, I put a layer of asparagus, and if they were too fat, I slit them down the center. I topped them with garlic, salt, and olive oil. I let those cook until they were almost done, then… the final topping was added: tomatoes and baby bella mushrooms!! OMG!!! Best tasting veggies #EVER!!! The best part was that they tasted as if they were grilled!! Success.
The meat eaters were thoroughly impressed! The salmon was perfectly moist and flaky, with the smoked flavor…#Indoorbbq.. Yes we did that! The corn that I rubbed with the mesquite flavoring, olive oil, and Montreal steak seasoning…..#Bomb.com. This meal made mouths happy. This meal made every soul in my house sing.
My Indoor BBQ, was pretty freaking awesome!!!!!
Till next time…. May your taste buds be forever satisfied!!!

How to Read Food Labels

The question of the day goes to all the last minute shoppers like myself who need to go grocery shopping for the holiday (today.. Yep. I’m super last minute). Do you read labels at the grocery store? Or do you just Grab-N-Go?

In the last blog, we talked about grocery shopping and how to keep it healthy. Now, I want to take it a bit further and look at the items that you are purchasing, read the label and understand what it’s telling you.

Look at this nifty sample macaroni label  ———————————>

Tequila – How to use it outside of Taking Shots

I have a respectful passion for Tequila. My lust for Tequila started back in 1995, when my husband and I went to Windsor celebrating his graduation from the University of Detroit. This was before you needed a passport to get over the bridge leading to Canada. We stayed in a hotel for 3 days. We spent a day at the casino and that’s where I had my first Margarita….it was strong, sweet and sour. The flavor of the Tequila, the tartness of the lemon and lime, the sweetness from the sugar lingers around your taste buds, uhm mmm… One taste started a love affair that has lasted 20 years.
